Over <\/span>twenty<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>years<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ago<\/span>, I\u00a0<\/span>left<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>mid<\/span>-management <\/span>career <\/span>that<\/span> had <\/span>left<\/span> me <\/span>drained<\/span> and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>burned<\/span> out. I <\/span>needed<\/span> a reset. A few <\/span>months<\/span>\u00a0later, I\u00a0<\/span>began<\/span> teaching English in a school <\/span>for<\/span> neurodivergent<\/span> children<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>kids<\/span> with<\/span> <\/span>ADHD<\/span><\/span>, <\/span>autism<\/span>, <\/span>and<\/span> learning<\/span> differences<\/span>. Driven\u00a0by\u00a0curiosity, I\u00a0trained\u00a0as\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span>ADHD\u00a0<\/span>coach, focusing on adults who struggled not because they lacked ability, but because their unique brains had never been properly supported. I never suspected I might be one of them \u2013 until I decided to better understand the assessment process. So, I went through it myself. \u201cFor research,\u201d I told myself.<\/span><\/p>

It\u00a0explained\u00a0so\u00a0much. Like\u00a0many\u00a0women\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>ADHD<\/span>, I had\u00a0masked\u00a0my\u00a0symptoms\u00a0for\u00a0years. I\u00a0conformed,\u00a0coped,\u00a0and\u00a0compensated\u00a0\u2013\u00a0at a high\u00a0cost.\u00a0Underneath\u00a0it\u00a0all\u00a0were\u00a0<\/span>anxiety<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/a>,\u00a0depression,\u00a0and\u00a0cycles\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>addiction<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Getting\u00a0the\u00a0diagnosis\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>ADHD\u00a0<\/span>didn\u2019t\u00a0change\u00a0who\u00a0I was. It gave me\u00a0permission\u00a0to\u00a0stop\u00a0pretending\u00a0and\u00a0start\u00a0healing.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Still,\u00a0the\u00a0moment of\u00a0my\u00a0<\/span>ADHD<\/span> diagnosis came with pressure. The psychiatrist urged me toward medication, even warning, \u201cYou might not survive without it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>That moment was terrifying. And it was also defining.<\/span><\/p>

Instead, I chose\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>stay in charge of my own healing<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>trusting my instincts and exploring a holistic path. <\/span>It wasn\u2019t easy, but it was worth it.<\/span><\/p>
