For example, the circadian rhythm which is basically your sleep-wake cycle. Depending on your circadian rhythm you might be most productive in the morning and describe yourself as a “morning person”. Your inner clock urges you to wake up earlier and as soon as you’re awake you’re good to go. Meanwhile many people get more done in the evening or deep into the night because their circadian rhythm is shifted a little backward. Your age and individual lifestyle can also have an influence.

On the other hand, when you feel you’re at your most alert and focused state might not be the time you’re at your most creative. A study about creative problem solving by Mareike B. Weith and Rose T. Zacks, published in the journal Thinking & Reasoning in 2011, concluded that your non-optimal time for focusing and analyzing might be your optimal time for creative thinking. “Morning person” or “night owl”, the time of day may have some influence on your creativity, but what’s most influential is your state of mind.
