WHAT IS BIOFEEDBACK? IF YOU CAN MEASURE IT, YOU CAN CHANGE IT

Biofeedback teaches you to control your body by measuring involuntary body functions (such as heart rate, breathing pattern and muscle tension) and feeding that information back to you in real time. It can serve both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. To successfully use the technique to improve your wellbeing, however, it is important that you understand what biofeedback is. More specifically, grasping the difference between traditional biofeedback and quantum biofeedback is essential.

What is traditional biofeedback?

Professional divers rely on (traditional) biofeedback therapy to consciously lower their heart rate and adapt their breathing pattern when under water. Athletes use biofeedback to optimise their gait, soldiers apply the technique to improve their pain tolerance, … And you use it, too! You may not be aware of it, but you are actually quite experienced in practicing traditional biofeedback yourself.

Have you ever stood on a bathroom scale? Well, there you go.

Because you wanted to know exactly how much you weighed, you stepped on the scale. The device measured your weight and gave you feedback via the display, which you read using your eyes and brain. Depending on the feedback you received, you made a conscious decision to change or retain your weight.

Biofeedback therapy

In the example above, the scale acts as the biofeedback device. During biofeedback therapy, however, you’re connected to electrical sensors (placed on your skin) or harnesses that do the measuring. The feedback is presented to you on a monitor or by means of light or sound, while a therapist helps you to gradually master various techniques (such as meditation, visualisation, breathing or relaxation) which you can apply to gain control over your body’s automatic functions

What is quantum biofeedback?

Quantum biofeedback takes traditional biofeedback to a whole other level. The unconscious level, to be exact. Whereas traditional biofeedback measures a physiological response and simply feeds it back to the conscious mind, quantum biofeedback focuses on the unconscious parts of the body and brain. So, instead of having to try and alter certain automatic body functions yourself, the biofeedback device sends out electromagnetic waves that do (most of) the work for you.

How that works exactly? It all comes down to vibrations.

Frequency re-education

In a healthy body, all cells operate at their ideal frequency, as nature intends it. Unhealthy cells, by contrast, vibrate differently. They emit electromagnetic waves that are flawed.

After small electric pulses are sent through the body by a biofeedback device, the feedback given by the body can indicate imbalances in the frequency level of cells.

In addition to identifying imbalances, quantum biofeedback therapy is intended to give the body the direction to re-educate itself. The quantum biofeedback device sends a loop of electromagnetic waves through the body to address the unbalanced frequencies of cells, allowing these cells to return to their ideal state themselves.
